Hawk Engineering News

Hawk Engineering, Galena, Kansas, continues to grow its business in machined components.

Founded in 1984 to serve its parent company's needs (Doane Pet Care), Hawk has grown from a 3,000 sq. ft. shop with conventional equipment to a 30,000 sq. ft. operation with modern CNC equipment serving a wide range of customers.

Initially set up to handle low volume, short lead-time orders on conventional equipment, the company quickly had to add CNC equipment to keep up with its customers needs.

John Jaeger, plant manager, noted that the experience level of the company's machinists is critical. "It's not unusual to have setup changeovers 3 times per machine per shift," noted Jeager. "That's why our average machinist has over 18 years of experience."

Hawk's equipment includes: 4 CNC vertical machining centers; 3 CNC lathes; 11 engine lathes; 2 turret lathes; 8 conventional mills; 3 wire feed welders; 2 tig welders; a blanchard grinder; and a complete inspection department. Hawk Engineering plans to continue its growth. Additional equipment and upgraded computer network/customer online access are examples of future goals for the firm.
