General Steel Fabricators Installs New Equipment
General Steel Fabricators, Joplin, Missouri, has recently
installed four pieces of new equipment. The custom
fabricator, now in its 87th year, offers design,
fabrication and welding for large and small projects
in carbon, stainless steel and aluminum. The new equipment
includes: a Webb plate roller capable of handling plates
up to 12' wide and 3/4" thick; a 24" x 20" vertical tilt-head
HEM bandsaw; a Piranha 250-ton CNC pressbrake with a capacity
of 10' and a Piranha 120-ton single-end punch. A 10-ton DeMag
crane was also installed to work with the band saw.
"This new equipment opens doors to new customers and industries for General
Steel," noted Stan Rife, general manager (and 36-year industry veteran).
"We can handle larger parts in-house for customers in such industries as
electrical power and heavy material handling.“
The company operates in a 90,000-sq.-ft. facility with 50 employees.
General Steel's customers come from a wide range of industries including:
manufacturing, mining, petrochemical, refining, power, cement, foundry and
pet food.
Other equipment at the company includes: an 8' x 2 7' CNC cutting machine
(plasma & oxy fuel); three hydraulic shears; three band saws; two press brakes;
three other plate rolls; 35 pieces of welding equipment (Mig, Tig, Plasma)
and a wide range of ironworkers and drilling equipment.
The company also features ASME and AWS certified welders and inhouse
non-destructive testing of welds.
